Eagle River, Alaska

April fools day of 1994 we came outside to head to a district meeting and found that the front of our car was up on blocks, with no jack to be seen. After making the 20 minute walk to the church building we found the other Elders from our district snickering and wondering why we were so late. After our meeting we returned to lower the car and have everyone take pictures, of both victims and victimizers.

Elder Lebaron broke his little finger playing basketball while I was serving with him. He had jumped up to catch a fast full court pass and got his finger pancaked between the ball and the rim. We had to make several trips to Anchorage because of the injury because one of the bones was badly crushed and fractured and it wouldn't set properly. I think he had to have it re-broken and set on more than one occasion.

Frequent hikes were common activities on P-day. Here Elders Telle, Stanford, Kowallis and Bucholz are posing.

Another hike up the canyon of Eagle River where there is a park with several loop trails.

We had to do our laundry somehow and we didn't have facilities at our apartments ever, so we were laundomat experts. Here Elder Boe Bucholz is folding a shirt.

This is Thunderbird falls, which is north of Eagle River in a town called Chugiak. We hiked here several times and the difference between the early spring and summer is very evident. Spring and fall are both very short in Alaska, depending on the latitude they are sometimes a month or less in length. These photos were taken 2 months apart, in April and June respectively.

Here is the Alaskan version of "Twin Peaks." We were never able to climb it, it is a much too lengthy climb and very technical as I recall.
