Sunset Suzy was my surfing instructor and did a great job. I am the one with really white skin.

Saturday

Surfing Lesson

At the surf shop Stephen had given me a flier for surfing lessons by Sunset Suzy and put in a good word for her. I gave her a call and scheduled my first lesson for Saturday morning. We met at Waiemea Bay and then drove to another local spot (which I promised to keep secret) to surf. Suzy provided all of the equipment, including soft top long boards. I won't claim it was easy or that I did great, but I dig get up a couple times and had enough fun that I decided I wanted to do it again. I miss the beach and haven't played in the ocean much since high school in southern California. After a few hours my arms were exhausted and I was ready to be done.

Hukilau Beach

After a shower and some lunch I was relaxing at home while thinking of other things to do. My cousin Bill and his oldest daughter Erica decided to go to the beach so off we went to Hukilau beach, which is just down the street from them. It is the sight of old island parties and net fishing were the entire community participated. As for the water to play in it has nice sandy beaches and a steady onshore breeze since it is on the eastern shore. The waves weren't too big, but they were fun for both body boarding and body surfing.

BYU Hawaii Beach Party

Saturday night BYU students gathered for a beach party at Hukilau. I didn't know anyone, but figured I could still mingle and have a good time. They had a kind of open mike music forum and there were hot dogs and marshmallows for the fire pits. I think I am getting too old to mingle with students. It is sad to say, but I think I am finally becoming a grown up.
